What i like about it is the atmosphere, the action, the ecstasy of scoring, the teamwork, the strategy, the battle plan, the spat, the love... It's crowded, the fans are together, chanting and singing. It's a beauty if u step in a player's shoes and look around the stadium. So with Euro 2008 coming to an end, i watched a semi-final and the final. Not live of course, i'm not a hooked footie fan. =D Just Repeats. Semis of Russia against Spain which ESP triumphs. But Torres tried too hard in the semis, being the lone striker, always taking the opportunities but never got the goal he deserved. Pity really, and he had to be substituted. But Fabregas was great~ the rest of d team too, of course.
The final, i watched this morning. It was played in Vienna, the Ernst Happel Stadium.
From the performance(balloon ppl releasing balloon and the theme song "Can You Hear Me" by Enrique Iglesias) before the clash of *gladiators to the "we are the Champions" song played at the end. The game started well enough, with both teams taking their turns of the ball possession. It was said that the Germans didn't play well enough. Well i cant tell as i didn't catch a single match of theirs besides the finals, of couse. First half was fine, nothing explosive. But Torres scored the only goal then with a runnning chip shot~ Bravo to him!~ and also, the Captains of both teams, Ballack(GER) and Casillas(ESP) got a yellow card at the same time, for what i think is for talking kindly for a little to long to the irate and irascible referee. (Caisalles didnt even get booked! not even once!) @@ And i think it was the first half also that Ballack got injured on his eye to add to the one at his calf... It was bleeding from an accident with Senna..
early 2nd half, tension arose as Germans started some serious attacking play, finally getting rhythm but they couldn't keep that pace for long and Spain started fighting back and had a pretty solid defence while German's defence was off-balanced.
Overall, I think Spain deserves the win~ It's just not Germany's night. And pity Ballack, who has been in a Lot of finals but always ending as the runner-up. Fabregas of Spain started in the lineup instead of the substitution bench. Villa's not playing due to a thigh injury picked up in the Semifinals, Silva was good~, so is Alonso, Xavi, Senna, Casillas of course~! German side, Klose didnt got the opportunity to score. Neither did Podolski, Ballack, Schweinsteiger, and the others managed to hit the net. Lehman did his job alright though. They all digged in but it wasn't enough, and it was not their match to win this time around.
And credits to Spain, who has a winning streak of 22games since end of 2006! This is also the most high-spirited, determined and a true unit spanish team that has not surfaced for 24years o so.. and Casillas is also the first goalkeeper captain to lift the Euro cup~ After they won, they celebrate by going to their fans for thanks of support and getting their country's flags. Then they tossed their 69 year old coach, going 70 in July, into the air a couple of times~ at the back of my mind, i was like, .. Be careful! =D Then they made a line of honor for the Germans to receive their medals before going up themselves to get their gold~ When the Cup was passed to Casillas, the captain(on the stage), the theme song of Pirates of the Carribean played in the background.. @@ incidently one of my favs, before "We are the Champions" rolled in when they walked to the field for photoshots~
Football, rather fantastic, don't you think? (*imagining most readers I Know shaking their heads)
