MBO Cinemas is Coming to town!

As many would have put it, it's about time for a new cinema in Kuching. Been a long wait for moviegoers as rumours have been in the air since year 2008 when the Spring shopping mall opened.Come 19th August 2009, Kuching moviegoers welcome the highly-anticipated new eight-screen cineplex and MBO's second largest after the 10-hall cineplex in Ampang, Selangor. It was reported in late March that the Chief operating officer Ikmal Nizam Ariffin revealed that the company will be spending about RM800,000 to RM1million per hall. With that amount of fund, Kuching will finally experience its first 3D screening - also MBO's first, which will be placed in the largest hall that seats 426 patrons. The whole cinema is stated to have a total seating capacity of 1,584. Aside from that, there'll be a hall designated for couples only, accomodating approximately 50 couples - I can hear thumping and whistles already~ From what i've heard, the sound system will be Dolby Digital Surround EX, a step up from Dolby Digital 5.1, increasing realism of the dramatic effect and emphasising the well-sought out 'feel'.

It is located near Padini Department Store.
The escalator to the cinema.

Meanwhile, the Lotus Five Star(Riverside Cinema) which recently took over from Metrowealth and the Star Cineplex Kuching will be facing a worthy competitor. Although Lotus Five Star had just refurbished its hall, changed the seats of the movie halls and introduced a a-flat rate parking fee, it's hardly comparable to Star Cineplex and the coming MBO Cinemas. Star Cineplex also recently altered its blue and dark theme to a green and brighter theme as well as replaced the cushions of its seats. But it is expected that Star Cineplex will fare reasonably well but with an unavoidable slight drop in business.

On the other hand, the retail space on the 2nd floor of Spring will soon be filled with entertainment - targeted at youths, karaoke outlet, a few food outlets and more retail concessions.

Well guys, another new entertainment outlet for our quiet city. Can't wait to watch movies like District 9 first on the new screen! where the comfortableness, sound system and all else will be tested. Sure hope people won't simply litter around the place.

Most of the information was obtained from The Star Newspaper.

Monday, 27th July 2009 is the highly anticipated' day. The Opening of the Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) complex in Kuching, which is set to be an icon for the state. It is a nine-storey building with a distinctive umbrella-shaped roof and has an architecture that combines the unique elements of Sarawak's heritage.

Most of the main city roads will be closed on Monday, much to the horror of workers from that area. Parents too probably as the schools nearby are staying open, rubbing in on the students after a certain someone voiced out that there will be a holiday in the wake of the event, giving false hope to the youngen".

There is much to be hyped about.
I am very interested in seeing the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin with his entourage on the road. (yes i remember his name all right, after a punishment of having to write it repeatively for 20 or was it 30 times..) I heard that he brought many people along, practically came in one plane, requiring Thirty-nine Cars for them and that excludes the upriders and rear riders? riders along the sides, police cars and an ambulance.
Yes, much to be hyped about.
And I reckoned state speakers only has one uprider, a car for security and the VIP.
Menteri-menteri besar will have.. 2 upriders? and etcetera.
Again, much to be hyped about.

I like the sight of this (not the photo above). It's not everyday one gets to see upriders and cars tailing behind followed by more riders. It injects some wow and stares. They are nice cars also *so sue my sakainess* An unusual event always assemble a crowd and an assembly never fail to bring some excitement, increasing serotonin levels as the world plunge further into depression... (crapping, I am. Couldn't recall the name of the hormone in mind. Any ideas?)

I went for a look see of the place on the eve of the big day. The stalls are lined a stretch along the road, draped in white, facing the main bazaar instead of the river. Saw a couple of floats. -Daulat Tuanku- And some ongoing construction work in which I hope they've tided up by now. Also, I passed by a site nearby with much trash laying around. Certainly a place all the VIV (very important visitors) won't be brought an inch near to.

However, my plan has placed me housebound for the day. In fact, I dont mind at all - always happy to avoid a traffic congestion. Never planned to go down there myself to watch the VIV - Who in the right mind would when there are better things to attend to. I'll probably try to catch a glimpse of the long line of vehicles on the telly. After all, that's about all I'm interested in. xD

Events for Monday are the opening of DUN in the morning, regatta in the afternoon, fireworks at night. The Conference of Rulers on Tuesday and Wednesday while the ladies and wives pay visits to some of Kuching's attractions and it's 'have a safe trip home' on Thursday.
Hopefully they will bring news back to their own states that no, we Do not live on trees and nor, quote - do we park our bmw under the tree of our habitat. We do, however have much more greenery in our city and we're proud of it. Fresher as well as cleaner air and water.

Hopefully, I can set foot in the place soon... Very unlikely, but I can hope, can't I?

There's a saying that goes - no pain, no gain (Yes Jane, thanks to you and your aerobics)
On a totally unrelated matter, what is there to gain from this pain?
The spasm and colic-like, as it is, is uncalled for.
Catchphrase 'Feel the burn' is just wrong, in this case.
The contractions and cramps could knock me out - it nearly succeeded once.
My Prostaglandins are having a field day. Doing finely in what they do. (For the curious - They are hormones that stimulate contractions, in this case)
If my tissues could talk, they will be screaming for blood!
and for some odd creepy unknown reason, PATA PATA PATA PON rings in my ear! (BA WHAT HAVE YOU DONE)
The gain? a small insight of labour.

Out of the blue and at the eleventh hour, I found out I was going for Sports Day. GRSS Sports Day. Frankly because lots of people were attending, and I found a ride that goes there late (some others going at 6am and even 5am - precious nap time).

There i went, appearing at Stadium Negeri and bumped into plenty of familiar faces. I would say, I reached there at around 11am, after breakfast of whatsitcalled with Jake.

Let's briefly go through the list.
Poke sw
Hugged lh
Waved to Eileen, Ai Lee, Mich
High-fived Kat whom i haven't seen at all this holiday.
Saw Anders' back and side
Had a glance of tienPhin
Saw Ivan looming behind me
Stood as tall as pq
Hugged Mary and Eve
Hi to LP
Hi to Christine
Greetings to tzewei and had him walk with me all the way down to the carpark.. barefooted

We left rather early though and missed the march pass, and Ian. The only event i saw was the... I forgot what it's called but I like competing in it last time. Here's a shot.

After that, we sent Ivan home, found out there's no BigMac and later, bumped, yet again into another bunch of Greenians.
It is indeed a day to catch up with old mates.
We went into Hall 2 for Ice Age. Greenians populated the place. Not that there were many people.
The movie was alright. Not awesome but alright. Couple of laughs then and again. Luckily it was only for RM5. xD

Oh yes, I learned two new words today. Words which in turn, will be revealed in Lh's blog, so stay tune there. =D

oh my.. Forget about my previous post. It works fine on morzilla now. Geez... I spent half an hour trying to get it to work..

Maybe it was the internet line, getting broken so much of the time these few weeks.

...

cjLee
Tadaaa~ Welcome to my desk.

People I need your help. Please tell me whether you can view the SHOUTOUT or chatbox on the right.
Because I cant view it when I'm using Morzilla Firefox. But it seems to be working fine with Opera, google chrome and somewhat works in IE as well. BUT NOT FIREFOX!

So do you mind leaving a comment for this post on whether you can view it with firefox, or whether you can view it at all.

Thank You!

BAH! i was planning to kick start some piling homework on the day that i'm finally Not too occupied with anything.
But seeing as it's Mid-sem break next week and my very much dead and abandoned blog deserves some attention, i decided to pay it a little visit and put some life into it.

But writer's block striked.
so i went reading some friends' blogs.
which made me realised how long it has been since i read anyone's blogs.

anyway, randomness is called for~

i'l start and ENd with this week.
MONDAY
Programming test3, i think i screwed it, badly.
my program wasn't a successful built though there seems to be nothing wrong, really. Only some annoyingly "incorrectable" bugs, which could prove costly.
and the person next to me hving her built successful provides no comfort.
Anyway, worst test yet and am dreading to see how i scored. x.x
The tests are getting more challenging. I had no Clear understanding of what the last one yield for either. zz

SO, right after that disappointing exam,
rushness pursued. it probably took my mind off the glomminess.
so thr i was, rushing for 5th floor of multistorey carpark and drove off to 惠盈's, all the while praying for life-longevity of my hp's battery and thinking i blardy hvnt written anything for gk.

reached home and teleported to my bedroom, dragging 惠盈 along.
Booted the pc for a note while filling only 2 pages of Words for gk. lolwof.
and creative michelle did a great job for bert's -dogtag, as he calls it. xD
finishing that up and wth some changes of events, we rushed to fork and knifeand & after that to joyce's.
It went mostly well lika a home-run hit. (=
I FORGT MY CAM!
sry no shots of bd gal who left early.

TUESDAY
project component didn't go too well. there were errors, oO and woahs.
We did not get the hang of the new software-ultiboard and couldnt finsh up or transfer the completed previous drawing. xx

WEDNESDAY
Math test, went alright.
homework, piling up.
illness, pushing it.

THURSDAY
physics lecture hall was emptier than ever (because thr's a test that very night)
Mr Webb spoke for approximately 40mins. (for a 2hrs lecture)
group report is officially complete~ (cant locate any of the lecturers for submission)
had a nice chat with mich
and good luck to those having CAD exam.

FRIDAY
I got out of bed after 8am, what a record-breaking feat!~ x.x
and here i are, blogging after a period of 2months.

Besides this week,
Holy Thurs to Easter was great.

I need to get to a sony center and mph.

This is not going to make any sense to anyone at all but one...

It first started with one but soon became a love triangle and with the blink of an eye, expanded into a pentagon.
It came with one, who was only picking and dropping off, but stood till this very day.

Then another, who was simple-minded and using the nice-approach, but reminded me deeply of someone else whom I would rather not have long conversations with. This turned out to have the exact same "genetic flaw" as predicted, yet things weren't that simple and with that come complications and lots more complications.z

Now this other one took a totally different approach. He tantalized and aggravated the second one about the chase where everyone else can hear it, which clearly annoyed the 2nd dood. Then he did an either intentional or accidental move of spotting with a date finder tool. That went funny, with ohSHAT and all that but this is the one that made the Move, yes serious and all that explicitly engaging Move until the target had to struggle with speech.

The others were all fantasiers who thought - too good to be true to be making a move.
And not forgetting the philanderer. Oh yeah, and the first one, who has extra chocolate on top but it was obvious that it was only trial and enjoyment, but nontheless, still stood till this day also.

With so many on-goings and blows and tackles to the one who least expected, things really went from disclosure and no-harm-goody windged to fun and olaa to knotty, perplexing, twisted and sobre.

Well all this actually helped make an "unregrettable" leave at very accurate timing. well not a total lament... but it could be worse. And thing is, the news has not broken out yet. oah sighs

bbq - 17th Jan.
Finally settled on a date

*hands up* I was the Last to arrive. By the time i got there, they were allll gathered around the pit, trying to Light up the charcoals~!
- It Took A Really Long Time-
none of us are bbq experts. some had been to bbqs recently but lighting up the pit Never Posed a problem. Until Now. My last bbq was more than 10years ago at my place.
We managed eventually, after more than 2hrs -can u imagine tat? xD
We ended up burning a lot of newspapers and wasting quite a lot of the fire ingiter thingie..
trick was to use candle wax, so that the fire will stick to the charcoal n BURN IT. There's another method, sth with the stove but that was out of the option for us. the FAN, was also a really useful device.

Commencing the grilling/barbecuing
Everyone enjoyed this. Flipping wings, lambs, sausages, sticking marshmallows and Eating.
Splashing water, scrambling for more water, wetting wings, rescuing wings from Fire with a Squeak, was the official duty of our very own honourable fire-fighter - twt.
We only have two tongs/kiap so everyone took turns using it. -I forgot to bring mine X=
Some people, mostly the girls went overly obbessive with Applying the butter and Honey. Seriously. Initially, it was somewhat okay, because a fire will suddenly shoot up and along with some splash of water, the meat will get wet? hence so-called >butter and honey removed.. -dots

BUt, all the charcoal were soon burning red and twt retired from her duty to something else More interesting. Like.. Applying butter/honey~! ="" Initially it was cally & later a few people took turns doing it. . DOing it over the same meat. ="""Well a layer or two is fine~ but they did it layer after layer, from when the meat Touch the grill, till it's cooked and Removed. @#
As a result, they're Really oily.
But i seem to be the only one to notice it and be bothered by it. lol. ahwell. gk mentioned it too after tbe clean-up, where we put the wings into d microwave. Lambs finished up really fast.

But yea, What mattered was having a good time right~? xP
Up to the middle of the cookout around 8.40pm, i had to run off somewhere, but returned soon enough to Eat. (Time: 9sth) yes, i havent eaten yet.. being part of the flipping crew and all.. xDD

hmm.. i was also dissaproving with another matter.. but let's just put that aside, shall we? 8DD

Another thing to note: when we were getting the charcoal burning, allllll the smoke went to the next door neighbour. No way to prevent that due to the wind direction. but yea, the -feel bad- was felt by all.

So when everyone was quite stuffed, most retired to the chairs, leaving a few to tend to the few wings left. The fire was also running low and turning out soon. Before long, only these two were left to care.
At that point, butter and honey was still being applied. @# but dismissed quite soon as well. *puff

Meanwhile, the others were busy with..
Rabbits. You got that right~ They are Gk's. he currently has 11 of them. If u're interested, let me know and i'l notify you when there's another mass reproduction of them. After some rest, cleaning ensued for it's getting late. So some were cleaning, washing, clearing, some mingled, rabbiting still and some left.
And that wraps up the night~

hmm, just realised, there werent any shots of myself for tat night. ahahaha x.x

BBQ eve - 16th jan

okay photos are finally up people~ in fb. mind you, i failed d uploading so damn many times..
apologies for the major delay. mind was too occupied to be loading them up n stuff.

so here's a rundown about it.

days & DaYS before, KM was walking along somewhr in sb and said, Let's have a BBQ! It'l b fuN~ at gk's house -that isnt d exact words of course.
hubert beep gk & some More days later, got d approval.

-Fast Forward to eve of bbq-
got a rang, or was it msn.. Lets go to Boulevard~
initially, i was uncertain why so many ppl r needed to buy some ingredients(well just 5ppl actually), but reluctantly tagged along anyway~
see, i wasnt really sure of what was going on. so went forth in a dazed, blurrish state. I even thought that night was the bbq. well, the dates keep changing.!.

boulevard, Meat section-
and there we were, buying chickens, Fresh ones due to marination plans right after the purchase. i Didnt know everyone present was clueless on uncooked meat. x.x well i hvnt bought any meat Myself in the past but it couldnt be that hard, rite? -i'm better at choosing fish stuff
Right.. wasnt that hard. signs of which chicken to choose kicked in eventually and spent quite some time there choosing 50 or 60 wings with the others till there isnt much good ones left. 8D

After some lamb picking, we head to the 'ingredients for marination' section. Again, clueless-everyone wasnt helping. But all along i had a few images of marinated meat stuff depicted in my mind. Then again, gota confirm what we actually needed so rang for some help. haha

Joyce's Kitchen
zoom in to joyce's after boulevard. We Packed the kitchen, cleaning, cleansing, plucking d wings and etc. Her mom hovers around us a lot and later insisted we have Tea time before we start the marination. As she puts it, let the wings, lamb dry off~
tea time- a jar of "wht'sitcalled dropped, making everyone slightly disconcerting besides d host family. lols.

Off to Marination process, where KM was dubbed the Mixer by the Commander(Joyce's mom)~
It was an intriguing experience for him i think. xD
As he said, '....this feels soo wrong..' '....this is the 1st and d last time'.
Obviously, there were plenty of hahas.
I added the stuff while he mixes, joyce & hubert Arranged them neatly into containers and gk came in time to do some washing.

That concludes the day. RUshed back in time before getting caught in traffic.

Sorry no photos for this day*

Christmas is fast approaching~
heck it's in 2 days oO
yet the Christmas spirit isnt felt

anyhow, for the first time in months, i came online and found nothing to do. lols
so, i'll just crap randomly here

I've recently got a new monitor. It's another handy down, but the screen's bigger than my last century old, smaller screened monitor which is getting fuzzy. It's so called a 15-inch, but looks like 13 inches to me, so i dont know.. x.x and it's another Big Box, much to my disappointment. lols i was planning to finally get a flat panel -dreams shattered

anyway, with better visual display, i find that once a completely pitch black image actually has something more to it. x.x and with bigger screen, some people's self customised blog layouts doesn't cover the full screen, including my own.. whuz. an example :

hmm, fell sick yesterday. one major annoying throbbing throat + fever where sitting brought headaches and walking brought diziness. Got better in the afternoon, after swallowing 4 different pills throughout the morning. went to class~ and found tat i couldnt talk properly and just speaking required tons of energy x.x
so then, i cancelled 2 plans today, laser tag n princess mariana catch-up.

this is kim, whom i'm usually with in summer sem.
everyday she'l ask, wht's wrong wth u??

my Christmas tree isnt up this year

MV Doulos, deserves some acknowledgement.Born in August 1914, had 4 different names, 2 years younger than titanic, rumored to retire in 2010 and visiting Kuching for the last time.

the other day, was surprised to spot michelle chung's brother, joshua in the K-Melbourne shuffle competition

mobile cam failed to capture any proper shots.

and this is from weeks and weeks ago, robotics competition for 1st years in swinb.

how it goes: two lego robots, each assigned to a coloured round sponge?, compete to get all 3 sponges across the finish line (the white line). The one who completes the task first is the winner~ During the competition, robots cannot be touched my handlers after the 1st 20seconds. They're not controlled by remotes, but move about detecting the assigned coloured sponge and then the white light (finish line).

Contestant A, a steady one, belonged to a friend of my cousin's (the only person we know who's competing there). We were rooting for it~ sadly it only got to the semis but it had some pretty good runs in the early rounds~

random photo of an equally long time. Doring and i, taken in Nov.
we were hanging around, waiting for time to pass at what seemed like a snail's pace when she went around the place taking photos~
